Celebrating Yorkshire Day!

Today is Yorkshire Day (1 August) and to celebrate this great county we’ve rounded up some of the great work we do to across the Yorkshire and Humber region to support people and businesses.

We support thousands of people each year to develop new skills and help them into work, many of these across Yorkshire.

This includes:

• Supporting refugees in Yorkshire and Humber to move into sustained employment through the Refugee Employability Programme (REP).
• Helping people to overcome barriers to employment through the Restart Scheme
• Supporting people in eight prisons in Yorkshire and Humber, including through the Finance, Benefit and Debt (FBD) service to support people to improve their financial literacy and help reduce reoffending
• Delivering the Creating Future Opportunities (CFO) Evolution programme, building on our work in justice service, to support people in prisons and those on probation with social reintegration, improve their wellbeing and reducing reoffending.
• Working with the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority, to deliver a programme of skills support for those aged 24 and over.

Supporting Yorkshire businesses

Through our Green Economy service, we have partnered with the City of York Council to decarbonise businesses in York. Through the help of decarbonisation specialists’ businesses are supported to transition to net zero through a package of support including 1-2-1 site reviews, development of carbon reduction plans, access to green technologies, and workshops.

This work is already having a positive impact. With one business alone, we identified improvements that could save 55,865 kWh of energy which equates to £23,070 on energy bills and 11.5 carbon tonnes (tC02e).

We are also working with businesses in the Humber to innovate by adopting digital tools to tools to enhance efficiencies, boost productivity and enable growth.
